Valentine's Day

I know the buzz about Valentine's Day is already over & St. Patrick's Day is just around the corner but updating my blog hasn't been much of a priority these days!  I had a few minutes to spare this morning so I thought I would FINALLY upload a few pictures of our best Valentine's Day yet!

The week prior to V-Day - PTA sold candy grams at Gabe's school for TWO Days!  Two days sitting at the school is a long time!  But is was a lot of fun & the kids LOVED it!  We sold 522 candy grams!

On that Friday Gabe had his school party with his classmates!

Gabe's Mustache Pops were a big hit & his Lego Ninjago Cards!

On Monday we had Lily's party at her school!

We made a Bear Hugs Mix for Lily's class - filled with teddy grams & hug Hershey kisses.  She of course did princess cards!

As many of you know how I feel about Valentine's Day - it's hard to explain that to your kids.  Bill & I don't celebrate it because I personally think it's a "hallmark holiday" and it puts all this unneeded pressure on spouses to come up with the perfect date night, buy chocolate, and tell your spouse once a year how much you love them - blah, blah, blah.  We feel like we already have date nights each month, and we tell each other we love one another daily  - many times a day!  Now, I do understand some relationships aren't like that & some people need this day - that's great - party on!

This year we finally found something that was going to work for our family.  Bill & I still don't do anything for each other but we will do special things for our children.  Check out just what we did!

We bought some little treats that we knew our kids would enjoy.

The first picture above are some valentine's Gabe made us {precious} he is so thoughtful.
I made chocolate covered strawberries for them & made Gabe an egg with heart shaped toast!

This is the part that makes it the BEST one ever!  We totally wrapped Valentine's Day around Gods unconditional love for us.  See the little mailbox?  I cut out 2 hearts, one for each child & Bill & I sat down & wrote all the things we loved about our kids from serious things to silly things like Lily's crazy hair!  We let them each read their heart {they both loved this so much} & then we did the devotional together & Bill prayed over our family. BEST VALENTINE'S DAY EVER!

We reminded our children that there is an enemy who is out to seek, kill & destroy. {John 10:10, 1 Peter 5:8}  He wants them to believe that God doesn't love them unconditionally.  But that is just one of his lies.

God loves us NO MATTER WHAT!  There are lots of temptations & how it's hard to always resist them but to be encouraged because God died to wash away our sins & rose again to be our Savior - because he loves us - UNCONDITIONALLY!  His love is a PERFECT LOVE!

{Jesus understands every weakness of ours, because he was tempted in every way that we are.  But he did not sin!}  Hebrews 4:15

{So humble yourselves before God.  Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.  Come close to God, and God will come close to you.  Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.}  James 4:7-8

That morning PTA also provided breakfast for the staff at the school.  I think we blessed them out!  I was blessed out by all the volunteers that came & brought food that morning BEFORE school even started!

What did y'all do??

Super Bowl

I'm sure like many we all gathered around our flat screen & watched the big game last night!  I am proud to say that I actually WATCHED the game!  It was a lot of fun!  We are Cowboys fans so it didn't really matter who won but I cheered for the Ginats because that's my Dads team...and Bill cheered for the Patriots because well...that's his Dad's team!

The whole family came over & a few friends to eat, watch the game, and eat some more!

I used the printables from Living Locurto.  Aren't they so much fun!  I think the straw flags were my favorite!

I also made these yummy buffalo bites.  We have been doing pretty good eating healthy & I had already committed to pizza & chips but I knew my hubby could really go for wings.  But they are soo bad for you.  When I saw my friend Falecia post this recipe from Emily Alvers I knew I had to try it!  Super Delish!

I even reheated some for lunch today & they were just as good!  I had them with some celery & carrots & low-fat blue cheese.  yummy!

Hope y'all had a fun Super Bowl!

Little Projects

I have been waiting for a while to share some of these pictures because I didn't want my friend to see her gift before the shower!  I had been working really hard on these sweet little creations!  I was going through her registry one day & saw the Dr. Seuss book she registered for & she is pregnant with twins so what other time can I make up a fun Dr. Seuss, Thing 1/Thing 2 gift basket!  ummm....like never!
 Adorable, ruffle bottom onesies.

I spent a rainy day making bibs....
I made these awesome bibs using the tutorial from Sew She Sews it was an awesome tutorial!  She actually used some fabric in between but I opted not to do that & just did terry cloth on the back & I think they would be heavy enough for food....and drool.

I also made my first set of burp cloths.  I will definitely be making more of these!  They were so fun & pretty easy to do.  They would be even easier if it was just 1 piece of fabric but I like to make it difficult and have to piece several fabrics together.

And add ric rac :-)

I made my first pair of babylegs!  I guess this was a project of lots of firsts!  I followed this tutorial  from Little Birdies for the babylegs....however....I was too lazy to go double check the way you were suppose to stitch them together so I did it wrong & ended up with this little ruffle--which in the end I loved!

We have spent the past 2 Saturdays with my MIL coming over to play games!  Last weekend we played several rounds of Rummikub!  So much fun!

I put new scripture on our chalkboard...

Decorated our mantel for the first time....

I even tackled our laundry room!

My wonderful hubby put these shelves up for me in our laundry room because we don't have a big, fancy pantry.  I needed some extra storage & we NEVER use that door.  So, we hung shelves!  The thing is, is that we just started throwing stuff on them....
well...and it ended up looking like this.  Not very pretty, huh?
We also moved our dogs to the laundry room too!

I decided to FINALLY tackle the laundry room!
I made some cute labels for my jars & baskets!
I read on an organizational website that everything needs to have a home.  If you have clutter around your house it is because you haven't given it a home!  SOOO....I gave everything in my laundry room & on my shelves a new home!

So much better!

I made little chevron tags that I laminated & pinned to the basket liners...extra k-cups, paper goods, extra Ziploc bags, paper towels, light bulbs, laundry cleaners, dryer sheets...etc.

I added more hooks for my aprons that are always falling down.

Lots of little projects going on around our house!

New Life

Well, today is the first day of my new life.  By new life I mean this.

Look at all that goodness.  Well, except for one!  I went to the doctor's yesterday for a follow up.  She basically told me that I have high blood pressure.  :-(  It's kind of sad & scary because I am so young but on the other hand I know it's very common especially for my family.  It could just be genetics too!  But I want to do all I can do to reverse it-if possible.

We don't do a lot of medicine in our house-advil as needed-other than that we don't take anything.  I've never been on a prescription that I've had to take daily - for an open ended amount of time. This is all new to me!

Along with blood pressure medicine I get to take a probiotic, vitamin D because mine was very low, omega-3, and a bone restore-basically calcium with lots of other stuff in it as well to keep my bones strong, and of course a multi-vitamin.  Gummy ones to be exact!  Thanks to my husband who only likes the chewable kind!  What is he 7?  I also get to monitor my pressure daily-yes we own a cuff!  Next I need a pill box & watch reruns of The Price is Right.  Is that show even still on?

I also have to drink LOTS and LOTS of water {gag}.  I hate drinking water.  It always gives me a stomach ache!  So, this one will be most challenging!  I am going to make some cold green tea & some sassy water that I found on food.com.

Here's the recipe

8 1/2 cups water
1 tsp grated ginger
1 medium cucumber sliced thin
1 medium lemon sliced thin
12 leaves spearmint

Directions:
Mix all ingredients together in a pitcher
Refrigerate overnight
Strain Water
Drink all 8 1/2 cups during the day

I think I can, I think I can!

I go back for blood work in 3 weeks - to the doctor's in 4 & hope for the best!  Please be praying for me over the next few weeks as we make these adjustments & that I show no side effects from the medicine.

Chevron Book Basket Labels

So if you're anything like me-I am obsessed with children's books!  I don't think we can ever have enough kids books around!  We probably have hundreds of them!  I promise-I just purged the baby books, the board book kind-a few weeks ago!

We have books stashed in both main living areas as well as in each of our kids rooms.  Our main living room they get stored in baskets under our coffee table.  In our second living area where we grab from nightly are stashed in a big, lined basket.

We let Gabe pick the books he reads each night but often times he pulls the same books out.  Why?, you might ask...because they are on top of the basket!  What 6 year old wants to actually dig to the bottom to find something new??  Not my kid!  So, I came up with a simple solution!

I created some chevron pattern, labels and attached to some baskets I picked up at the dollar tree!  I created two labels, 'books to read' and 'books finished'.  I laminated them.  I attached them to the basket with a large pop dot from the scrapbooking section.  I was going to use Velcro with the sticky back to it but I couldn't find mine this morning.  Boo.  You could also just punch holes in the corners and tie them on with ribbon, string, or even a zip-tie.

I filled up the one side with books from the BOTTOM of the large basket for Gabe to read this week!  He can still pick which books he reads but now it wont be the same ones over and over again!

Once he is finished he can stick them on the other side.  When I forget to fill out his reading log I can go back through his finished books & complete it!  I think it will be rewarding for him to watch the other side fill up & see his accomplishments for that week!

At the end of each week I will rotate the basket with new books to read!  Then hopefully we won't have the same books showing up all the time!

Download this free printable & create your own baskets at home!  You can even do it for your own books that are just sitting on your shelf!  There's nothing like a stack of finished books to make you feel like you accomplished something!

Happy Reading Friends!
